NDCWales is a part of ZOOTV Edinburgh Fringe programme for a second year
National Dance Company Wales (NDCWales) is pleased to be a part of the ZOOTV Edinburgh Fringe programme again this summer, allowing more digital audiences to see the company dance from wherever they are watching in the world.
National Dance Company Wales is embarking on its first live performances since March 2020, with open-air performances across Wales, starting at Chapter (Cardiff) on 6 August before heading to Aberystwyth Arts Centre, Theatr Clwyd (Mold) and Pontio (Bangor). Digital audiences won’t miss out as the open air performance will also be part of ZOOTV’s Edinburgh Fringe programme from 18 to 29 August.
The 30-minute joyful digital experience includes two short dance pieces created by NDCWales dancers, Ed Myhill and Faye Tan. ‘Why Are People Clapping!?’ by Ed Myhill is an uplifting, funny and clever dance piece. Set to composer Steve Reich’s ‘Clapping Music’ it uses rhythm as a driving force with the dancers clapping, stamping and jumping to create the soundtrack. It’s face-pulling, toe-tapping, joy.
'Moving is everywhere, forever' by Faye Tan is a satisfying ode to the act of dancing; an invitation to yield to the irresistible impulse of grooving, to the soundtrack by Welsh electronic duo Larch.
NDCWales is committed to continuing the digital work it created during the pandemic and making sure the work is as accessible as possible to the widest possible audience.
"Marcos Morau’s Tundra was very well received on ZOOTV last summer, reaching hundreds of people from across the world, from Australia to Singapore, so when we were asked if we wanted to take part again this year we jumped at the chance. As we start to emerge from the pandemic, we hope our new online audiences will continue their digital journey with us so it’s great that our outdoor tour will be seen by a global audience as well as at live shows in Wales,” explains Paul Kaynes, Chief Executive.
“It’s wonderful to be part of a programme which highlights some incredible talent from across the UK, and to present the work of Wales based choreographers within it.”
