Dance for Parkinson’s programme sponsor wins two Arts and Business Cymru Awards

Western Power Distribution (WPD) were awarded the Arts, Business & Brand Identity Award at this year’s Arts and Business Cymru Awards for their valued support and alignment with several arts organisations in Wales. In further recognition of the wide range of arts partnerships that WPD have fostered, they were also named Admiral Business of the Year

For the last eighteen months National Dance Company Wales and WPD have worked together on their Dance for Parkinson’s project alongside English National Ballet, who started the programme.

The partnership has enabled the the expansion of the programme from a single hub in Cardiff, to a second NDCWales led Dance for Parkinson's group in Blackwood, and WPD have used the platform to promote their Priority Services Register. The Priority Services Register is  offered free to those who are vulnerable or have medical needs or disabilities, and provides tailored practical and emotional support during power cuts.

WPD took part in Dance for Parkinson’s sessions in both Cardiff and Blackwood, to engage with the participants in a relaxed and friendly environment, where they could talk about the Priority Services Register and share in their joy of dance, and the benefits it can offer.

Arts and Business Cymru have recognised the huge importance that the arts have on health and wellbeing and the impact that WPD’s support has on the communities it serves. WPD’s eight other partners are Engage Cymru, The Gate Arts Centre, Music in Hospitals & Care Cymru, The Riverfront, Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, Carmarthen and District Youth Opera, Urdd Gobaith Cymru and Big Pit Museum.
