Ammanford and Ystradgynlais are getting ready to PARTi with National Dance Company Wales in November

Two venues in Wales are getting ready to PARTi with National Dance Company Wales (NDCWales) this November. The company presents a brand-new dance experience called PARTi, which will see a community cast from the area take to the stages in Ystradgynlais and Ammanford alongside  NDCWales’ dancers.

Audiences will experience a unique performance designed for the venue, with dance at its heart. There will be a bitesize dance work from NDCWales’ new artistic Director Matthew Robinson; a brand-new work from Neath born dance artist, Thomas Carsley (BBC Young Dancer Competitor) and a co-creation by Emily Robinson and local performers from Ammanford and Ystradgynlais. The show rounds off with nibbles, drinks and Twmpath with a live folk band, Allan yn y Fan.

Following a call out for local performers, NDCWales has been working with a community cast from across Ammanford and Ystradgynlais since August to create a brand-new dance piece choreographed by Emily Robinson and also featuring NDCWales company dancers.

Emily Robinson, Choreographer, working with the community cast said,

“This is a one-of-a-kind project which I'm very excited to be facilitating as a local artist. Following a co-creative approach, the community will be put in the driver's seat, giving a platform to local voices of all ages. Audiences can expect a vibrant piece- full bodied and playful."

Neath born, Thomas Carsley, a finalist in the BBC Young Dancer 2019 competition, has been dancing since the age of 11. His style of dance and choreography comes from contemporary/hip hop movement. His new piece for NDCWales, FAN THE FLAMES, will feature three NDCWales dancers and is an elegant, energetic and emotive dance that will leave you ready to tackle the future.

Matthew Robinson’s new duet, NO-SHOW, is an explosive blend of classical music and high-speed dancing, a window into the cartoonish antics of two friends getting ready to party.

Matthew Robinson, NDCWales Artistic Director said, “PARTi is a brilliant moment to come together, to share a laugh, to catch up, and to dance. I am thrilled that NO-SHOW will be part of the event, it’s going to be a great night out.

Wynne Roberts, Manager at The Welfare, Ystradgynlais said,

“This is a really exciting project for us to be part of. Our audiences are always keen to see what NDCWales will do next, and this time, they can be part of the show as well as see new pieces from the Company. Previous shows have inspired audiences to think about what dance could be and who it’s for. What is really exciting to see is some of the changes that will be made to the venue.  Audiences will step through the doors and experience a PARTi night out - the venue will feel different to anything they may have seen here before."

“We are really excited to welcome National Dance Company Wales to Ammanford this autumn.  PARTi promises to be a special event as it brings the community together for a fun-filled experience.  Here at Theatrau Sir Gâr we believe it’s important that everyone has the opportunity to experience amazing arts experiences on their doorstep and have the opportunity to try something new.  Working with National Dance Company Wales on this event we hope the opportunities for the community to participate, create, and watch a dance performance will inspire people and help break down any perceptions that contemporary dance is not for them.”
Sharon Casey, Theatres Development Manager

PARTi will be at The Welfare, Ystradgynlais on Saturday 12 November at 2pm and 7pm, and Theatr y Glowyr in Ammanford on Saturday 19 November, 2pm and 7pm.
